Bikedock Belles

Mum and Dad (Jenny and Derek) went along for the ride! And had the aim of finding Slievenaslat viewpoint, thinking they were out for a wee cycle and a little walk (the easy carrying of 5 bikes has still to be solved!). However it turned into long training session…..for Try-a-triathlon at the end of March, in which both parents are giving it a debut go! So don't use the kids as an excuse not to exercise, take them with you!

Rather than looping the lake, the Melvilles headed off trail and upwards…. harnassing Hugo's great 'I am now 5 and can do anything' enthusiasm on his new bike. Great fun was had off the main track, although Max did disappear at one point on a solo adventure! Emer found that brown mud splotches go well on pink!

Whilst a little longer and faster than anticipated – note to self, must do the Belles’ orienteering training ! - great fun was had by all. Everyone's endurance improved, there were plenty of puddles and mud, and getting hugely lost was a big adventure.

Slievenaslat was finally found, with a good vantage point to view future bike rides, and thanks to Derek's navigational skills and flashbacks to his younger years of fell races in the vicinity, the family made it back to the hot chocolate waiting in the car. (well, after 4 and ½ hours instead of the planned 2 hours, it was maybe tepid instead of hot!).
