After the inspirational Young Guns on Sunday at the 2nd in the series of 3 XMTB races, it was the adults’ turn to show what they’re made of. Sugar and spice and all things nice?! Belle Andrea and Monthly Debbie are surely the personification of this?! And also guts like the Young Guns, with Debbie having perhaps her most challenging weekend having also completed the CCAR adventure race in Castleward on Saturday. So it was just a wee warm down for her in Ormeau on Sunday!
Having spent 6 hours racing at Castleward, Debbie was busted.com on Saturday night and an early morning walk with her dogs on Sunday found her legs to be jelly like….and prompted a text to Andrea saying “why did I agree to Sunday too?!” (note, that’s the censored version!). Andrea’s reply was “because you’re made of the stuff of Belles – mad! – and it’ll loosen your legs out?!”.
Debbie turned up!...wondering why…but soon found out why. What a performance she put in, although she now has to deal with the fact that she has always prided herself in coming last! Last position is hers no more….and the way she’s setting about her fitness campaign in 2011, along with the fabulous attitude she has and will just throw herself into anything, she’ll always be leaving last position to somebody else now.
At Ormeau there were 62 starters in our Adult race and Debbie, member of Dromara CC, finished in 50th place.
Go Debbie! A 6 hour adventure race on Saturday after 5 night shifts in a row and then a lung busting 50 minute MTB race on Sunday…..so what did you other girls do at the weekend?!
Andrea, also of Dromara CC, did both events too - racing for about 5 hours on Saturday and then 42 minutes on Sunday at Ormeau, where she placed 3rd female. At the end she warmed down with Fraser, who insisted on doing a proper "mummy's race lap" before we left. Debbie had a harder task, chasing after Alex while Andrea and Fraser headed off!
There were 8 females among the 62 starters at Ormeau – with more and more girls becoming interested in this sport and other off-road events such as Adventure Racing. So come join us and explore this whole new world! Just ask Debbie what a great new world it is!
Ding Dong!
