Recycle Your Unwanted Bicycles For Your Local Cancer Charity

Got any bicycles at home that you no longer need? Are they gathering cobwebs because the kids have outgrown them or you have replaced yours with a newer model? Then why not give them a new lease of life - and raise money for the Ulster Cancer Foundation at the same time.

Belfast bicycle specialists Bikedock, Ravenhill Road, Belfast has come up with a novel way of helping local cancer patients. They will take your old bikes off your hands, sort them out for the Ulster Cancer Foundation for their Bargain Bike Weekend, when they will be converted into cash, helping cancer patients across Northern Ireland.

Managing Director Derek Armstrong said: “It doesn’t matter if the bikes need a little TLC - they can have a broken chain, a flat tyre or something wrong with the gears – we will take them off your hands.  Once they are road worthy again, they help raise money for this very worthy cause.”

Derek said; “Both my parents had cancer and passed away within the last three years, and so I have a very personal reason for supporting the work that the Ulster Cancer Foundation does.

“As well as helping patients, they also give excellent advice on healthier lifestyles and reducing the risk of getting cancer. Cycling in the fresh air is a fantastic way of getting more exercise and improving your health and I’m delighted to help more people get on their bikes.”

Neill Grainger, Senior Development Officer with UCF, said, “This is a first class opportunity to do a bit of garage spring cleaning and help cancer patients through our many support services. It is shocking to think that one in three people in Northern Ireland will be diagnosed with cancer.  It is a disease of major significance that touches the lives of so many people and we couldn’t do our vital work without the help of the public.”

Anyone who lives in the greater Belfast area who would like to donate their bikes, is asked to drop them off at Bikedock at 79/85 Ravenhill Road, Belfast, between Monday 21st March and Saturday 2nd April. The bikes will then be available at bargain prices, from as little as £30, at the Ulster Cancer Foundation Bargain Bike Weekend in the Bikedock car park on The Ravenhill Road http://www.bikedock.com on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th April, from 10am to 3pm, finishing with an  auction at 3pm on Sunday for unusual models.  It will be a great opportunity to pick up a real bargain and support a wonderful cause.

Thanks Andrew, we hope the public will get behind us, spread the word and get all those old bikes back on the road - this is a great project and we’re very pleased to be in a position to help get bums on saddles and support the UCF in the process.
