10 Days To Go Until The Terror Of Terrex

There is now only 10 days to go until Taryn and Andrea take on their first ever multi-day adventure race, the Adidas Terrex in the Lake District. In true Belles style, the girls are well prepared ?! They had their umpteenth (ok, that's a lie…2nd !) team meeting with male pair Ivan and Steve on Sunday, and sat in their race boats for the first time! Things didn't bode well when Andrea got in the back and was heard to say, "so, how does this thing work?" !
Terrex is competed in by 4-man teams that include at least one female. Taryn and Andrea are fortunate enough to be wanted (?!) on a team with Ivan Park and Steve Curry (CCAR boys), who both have experience in multi-day races. Terrex is an expedition-style endurance event. It is a non-stop 4 day adventure race across the Lake District, covering about 400km by self-orienteering through the fells and mountains by foot, down single tracks on mountain bikes and across the spectacular lakes by kayaks.
Taryn, Andrea, Ivan and Steve met at Whiterock on Sunday for some intense training – not that the girls needed to practice their chatting! Only 30 minutes into the paddle Ivan said to Steve, "so much for enjoying the sun and spectacular scenery of Strangford Lough on a peaceful Sunday morning. Noise pollution or what?!". Taryn said, "If you're complaining after 30 minutes, what on earth are you going to be like after 4 days with us?!". Steve decided ear plugs should be part of his mandatory kit!
After a bit of kayaking, the group of 4 headed to a local coffee shop for a meeting ahead of the race. Taryn and Andrea went ahead, while Ivan and Steve collected up all the kit (well, it was training for them as they'll be doing that in Terrex for us!!), with a view to having a list of topics of discussion and questions ready for the boys.
When Ivan and Steve eventually came along one hour later, the list was complete!....but was absolutely nothing to do with Terrex!! Isn't it funny how general life just takes over?!

It was such a blue sky sunny morning on Strangford Lough on Sunday. I even spotted an unusual sighting of a rare bird behaving in a non characteristic manor - I managed to capture it on camera - see photo 2.
